Based on Charles Blow’s memoir of the same name, Fire Shut Up in My Bones is the second opera by Blanchard, an acclaimed Grammy-winning American jazz trumpeter and composer. Blanchard is also a film score composer, having worked on every Spike Lee movie since Jungle Fever in 1991. Metropolitan Opera general manager, Peter Gelb, told the New York Times that the work could premiere on a New York stage as soon as the 2021-22 season.
